Make Your Dog Happier with One Small Step

Once you adopt a dog you must reconsider how you structure your life. You need to make sure you dog is given the ability to enjoy their lives when you are not at home.

Have you ever wondered if your dog gets lonely while you’re at work all day? You probably don’t wonder — you know they do! It’s every pet owner’s most nagging guilty thought, imagining their poor fur babies at home with nothing to do. In fact, many people in urban areas will spend as much as $100 a week on entertainment or activities for their puppy while their human counterparts are stuck in the office.

When you get home, you know they’re happy to see you, but sometimes you suspect they’re a little ticked off, too. Who wouldn’t be? You think maybe a walk would cheer them up; according to some research, it only takes twenty minutes of social interaction to improve your pup’s mood. Still, you wonder if you couldn’t be doing more. Like any relationship, pets and their people need to spice things up every now and then.

If you’re one of the 59% of dog owners with only one puppy, you might try looking into dog dating sites. Now, pet dating perhaps isn’t as committal or romantic as it might sound. It’s simply a way for pet owners to schedule dog playdates so that their furry ones might get a little more same-species interaction in their lives.

There’s no romantic poetry required, no flowers, no splitting the check. (First kisses in dog dating might work a little differently than human dates, though.) Like other geographically-based dating apps and online services, dog dating helps you find other pet owners in your area with similar interests.

You might ask: Don’t all dogs have the same interests — i.e., eating, playing, and getting their ears rubbed? Well sure. But every dog is different, and here you can find a good canine companion for your own best friend. Does your dog prefer frisbees or tennis balls? Does she amble at a leisurely pace on walks, stopping to smell every tree trunk, or does she like to run marathons? Maybe your little chihuahua only likes to play with mastiffs. Just like with humans, there’s a match waiting out there for every dog type.

Just like there’s plenty of other fish in the sea, there’s plenty of other dogs in the park. Setting up your pup with dog dating isn’t about pawning off your dog-owner responsibilities; if anything, it could help make your “us time” — cuddled up on the couch watching reruns of Wishbone — that much sweeter.
